Melbourne Event #4: Deloitte - Creating Your Workplace with a Difference
Speaker: Sophie Conabere
Position: HR Director
Sophie Conabere is a People and Performance (P&P) Director at Deloitte and is responsible for the Reinventing Performance Management project, the Talent 2020 strategy and drives the people agenda in the Tax business. Prior to working with Tax, Sophie worked closely with the Consulting group as they experienced significant growth. She is a member of the P&P Leadership Team and has sat on the various BU Executives. Reinventing Performance Management is one of the primary focuses of her role. Deloitte commenced this journey over three years ago and are currently implementing the new experience globally. The focus of her business unit roles includes the following:
- Driving the change management activities aligned to business transformation
- Increasing the leadership bench strength and capability
- Increasing employee engagement and effective minimisation of employee turnover
- Identifying, acquiring and developing top Talent aligned to business growth and sustainability
- Embedding a strong performance culture
- Retention of top talent by managing and driving diversity
- Delivering high quality people services to the business
Prior to joining, Sophie worked as a Human Capital Consultant at PwC specialising in change management. She also spent 8 years with the Bechtel Corporation working in Australia and the USA in a variety of roles. Sophie was the Senior HR Specialist for Bechtel in San Francisco, California until November 2004, when she returned to Australia. During her time with Bechtel, she managed the start-up the people aspects of the $1.5 billion Iraq Infrastructure Reconstruction Project. She also facilitated the completion of the Annual Talent Review Process (the annual process to identify staffing gaps, trends, high potential employees, review diversity goals and statistics, complete succession planning and Senior Vice President and Principal Vice President selection) for the Government contract organization (approx. 10,000 employees). Other roles held have covered the broad spectrum of Human Resources including strategy development, performance management, workforce planning and management, leadership identification, development and supply and HR operations.

Joshua Goodrick is the Director of Talent Management and Organisational Development at RMIT University.
He has significant global OD and HR management experience, gained across a diverse range of sectors, including retail, FMCG, professional services, biomedical and banking/finance.
During his eight year tenure at RMIT, Joshua has overseen operations and strategic planning within Human resources, including the development of a 5 year roadmap to enhance leadership architecture & performance, agile organisational design practices & implementation of workforce transformation solutions.
Joshua is also the Program Director of one of the University’s five enterprise strategic focuses for 2019 – ‘People Area of Focus’. This focus area aims to create an adaptable, flexible and effective organisation that attracts and retains staff who are talented, motivated and set up for success.
Joshua is recognised for his design and facilitation of collaborative workshops, along with his reputation to foster relationships, develop business strategies and lead new business models.

Johanna joined Cleanaway in May 2014 and was appointed Executive General Manager, Human Resources in December 2015.
Johanna has more than 10 years human resources experience gained in senior and executive roles. Prior to joining Cleanaway, Johanna was the Director People & Culture of TSC Group Holdings.
She has also worked across a number of industry sectors including fire & electronic security, plumbing & HVAC and hospitality.
Johanna has a Bachelor of Arts, holds Post Graduate qualifications in Employee Relations and Human Resources Management from the University of Melbourne and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
