Brisbane Event #2: Technology in Learning
Speaker: James Hanson
Position: Global Learning & Development Manager
I’ve enjoyed over 17 years in Human Resources following my decision to change career and re-qualify. With experience in multiple global locations I bring to organisational development a fresh set of ideas, which often expands on traditional theories.
During this time the main challenges I’ve faced in delivering world class development solutions include:
- Developing globally consistent core business skills to ensure we have the knowledge, skills and training to serve our clients at the highest level;
- Reaching staff, who are geographically dispersed (in over 100 countries), with a consistent development approach and methods;
- Ensuring global training is relevant to staff and practical in its delivery to suit different learning needs.
I’ve been very fortunate to work with some great individuals and teams over the years. Together we’ve been able to combat these challenges by implementing development programs across core competency, compliance, technical, leadership and business development career streams, resulting in improved employee engagement, retention and solid financial company performance.

Brisbane Event #4: The Hilton's Approach to Corporate Social Responsibility
Speaker: Adrienne Putelli
Position: HR Manager
Company: Hilton Group
Adrienne has had a distinguished career at the Hilton Hotel group. Her long-standing role at Hilton hotels has taken her around the world with positions in the UK and UAE. Recognised for over 20 years of ongoing contributions to the hotel, community, company and the environment, Adrienne’s position as Human Resources (HR) manager has been the most impactful of her career.
Adrienne's contribution to the group was recognised with her winning the Hilton’s CEO Light & Warmth Award which celebrates inspiring team members who embody the very best of what hospitality means. It is the highest form of recognition the company offers and is awarded on a global level.
Adrienne embodies the characteristics every hospitality employer seeks – dedication, hard work, comradeship and a devotion to go above and beyond. Her passion in these areas has gained the hotel international recognition, regularly attending career fairs and networking evenings on behalf of Hilton Brisbane and Hilton worldwide, inspiring the next generation of hospitality professionals. A champion for sustainability and social justice, Adrienne encourages staff involvement in extra-curricular activities such as rehabilitation missions in local businesses after devastation of the 2011 floods.
Adrienne’s vision to offer nationally recognised qualifications to team members in collaboration with an RTO (Registered Training Organisation) works to ensure staff are always developing their professional skillset. As Brisbane is expecting five new competitor hotels over the next five years, Adrienne is working to ensure Hilton will attract, recruit and develop top talent in the industry, that constantly focus on giving back to the community.
